Beachy interior ideas: how to get the coastal look

by Charlotte

It’s heating up outside, and while you prepare to hit the beach, it’s time to make your home summer-ready too. Turn your home into a coastal retreat with our expert advice on how to create the look.

Light it up

Bring the sun into your home by brightening up your space. Even without big windows and floods of natural light you can easily make your home feel bright and breezy. Try painting walls, floors or furniture in white or pale grey and adding details such as crisp white linen or wall art in calm, light shades. With a light print in sky blues like Barbara Hepworth’s “Spiral” above your bed, you’ll wake up to sunny vibes every day.

Take the weather with you

Weathered materials and faded colours create a sun-kissed look. Evoke the chipped exteriors of waterfront beach huts and shabby boardwalks by distressing painted furniture or adding rustic wood or stone elements. Kathy Ramsay Carr and Lesley Birch paint beautiful weathered coastlines which look fantastic, teamed with lightly distressed frames for a gentle, sea-worn look.

Get on board with the nautical trend

via Goodhomes Magazine

Opt for a classic sailor look with blue and white stripes, which never fail to transport you to the seaside. Take the nautical theme to a whole new level by adding wall art of boats, shells and sea creatures. Try this lighthouse print by Anthony Peters for a graphic take on the theme.

Plunge into blue

Bring the ocean to your home with splashes of blue. Combine deeper blues with hints of tropical turquoise or steely petrol to bring out the beauty of this versatile colour. Fintan Whelan’s painted abstracts showcase blue in all its different gradations. Look to the shore to expand your palette with beachy browns or fiery hints of coral.

Ride the surfer wave
