Spot The Difference At The National Gallery

Posted by , 27 January 2014

For the first time in 65 years, two of Vincent Van Gogh’s much talked about Sunflower paintings will be reunited in London. The National Gallery, which is already home to one of Van Gogh’s Sunflower paintings, will be hosting another from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam until 27th April.

They’re inviting viewers to compare and contrast the two works as they hang side by side in one of the gallery’s rooms.

Van Gogh created two series of sunflower paintings. In the first, the sunflowers were usually featured in singles or small groups and were always lying on the floor. The second series was painted whilst he waited for his friend Paul Gauguin to join him in the South of France and consists of five paintings of sunflowers in vases.
