The Flood at Port-Marly, 1876

Impressionist landscape painter Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) spent most of his life in France, although he had British citizenship. Of all the artists in that movement he was the most steadfast in his dedication to outdoor 'plein air' landscape painting. He only rarely painted figures and, unlike Renoir and Pissarro, found Impressionism to be completely artistically fulfilling.
