This high quality print is based on a pen and ink wash on paper of Aesculus hippocastanum by Claude Aubriet. Identified as Hippocastanum vulgare by the artist. Aubriet was born at Chalons-sur-Marne, France in 1665. In 1700 he travelled to the Levant with Tournefort and on his return became a painter at the Jardin du Roi. This work forms part of a collection of drawings for a book by Antoine Jussieu which was not published.
