The Artist

Claude Monet

The archetypal impressionist, whose commitment to the movement never wavered, Claude Monet (1840-1926) is one of the most important and loved figures in the history of art. His work never fails to delight and bewitch but is also ideal for encouraging peaceful contemplation. A master of light and colour, he repeatedly painted the same scenes outside 'en plein air' to capture the changing shadows and passing seasons.
