This American landscape painter was born in Philadelphia in 1839 and studied under Gleyre and Meissonier in Paris. He then decided to settle in Rolleboise, a rural area at the edge of Paris.
Knight is best known for his skill in painting landscapes and beautiful women. He exhibited throughout Europe but particularly at the Paris Salon, where he received an Honourable Mention in 1882. He was awarded a Silver Medal in 1889 at the Munich Salon and in the same year became a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
Knights work was soundly researched and is represented today in many leading museums. He died in 1924.
