Erté (1892-1990) was born Romain de Tirtoff, developing his famous pseudonym from the french pronunciation of his initials ‘air-tay’. Celebrated as the father of Art Deco, he was a prolific artist and designer in the 20th century. He produced work across many fields, including fashion, jewellery, graphic arts and interiors.
