Frederick Cotman

Frederick George Cotman was born in Ipswich in 1850. At the age of 18 he entered the Royal Academy School and then began his career as a portrait painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1871. 'One Of The Family' is one of Cotman's most beloved paintings. It depicts a charming family, sat cosily around a table eating a meal. Cotman painted a real family, named Street, for this scene. They lived in the north of England but the child at the bottom right of the painting emigrated to New Zealand when she was sixteen, and her descendants there proudly own copies of the painting.

have only unwrapped it once but thought the printing was very clear and the colours bright.I am waiting for my son to see it and decide if he wants to have the print framed with its border and name on the front -or with the border removed and the title put on the back of the frame with perhaps the "Never cut bread like this!" story.I get prints framed by a young man who lives in the cellar? of the shop.He is generally there and clumps upstairs when I cough.He must live a very lonely life but seems very happy .
