Art prints & frames, handmade in England since 1982
Born in Haarlem, in Holland, in 1816, and the son of a Lutheran hatmaker, Frederik Kruseman came from an eminent family of artists and was tutored by many of the greatest names in the Dutch Romantic style, including Koekkoek, Reekers and Roosenboom.
Working originally from Hilversum and Haarlem, he moved to Brussels in 1858 and was based there until his death in 1882. Although he exhibited little, Kruseman acquired a reputation as a successful and popular artist of the Romantic school, specialising particularly in summer and winter landscapes with figures. His depictions of winter sports are perhaps the best-known of his oeuvre.
