Gladiolus from Latin, the diminutive of gladius, a sword is a genus of perennial bulbous flowering plants in the iris family. Sometimes called the sword lily, the most widely used English common name for these plants is simply gladiolas. This subject was in a bucket in a flower store where I was shopping for a gift for my wife. It jumped out at me for some reason and I brought it back to my studio to paint. My wife never got her gift, and I wonder if the angel appeared later to perhaps remind me about my original intention with regard to my wife!
