Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) was a pioneer of Dada, most famous for his ‘Readymades’ that subverted traditional notions of art by engaging the viewer through irony and satire rather than aesthetic value alone. One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, his ideas paved the way for movements like Pop, Minimalism and Conceptualism.
