About the artist

Sir Gerald Kelly was born in 1879 and made his name as one of the greatest and most-admired British artists of the twentieth century.

He was educated at Eton and at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, although he later also studied in Paris. In 1908 he was made an Associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy and in 1922 an Associate of The Royal Academy, of which he became Keeper in 1943 and President in 1949.

He was also a Member of the Royal Fine Arts Commission and was the Honorary Surveyor of the Dulwich Picture Gallery. He was one of the most prominent painters in the country, and of his many commissions two of the most important were state portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, which were executed for the Royal Family.

A major retrospective was held at the Royal Academy in 1957.

Excellent quality print, I've just had it block mounted at my local framers and it looks great.
