Sir Gerald Kelly (1879-1972) is one of the greatest and most admired British portrait painters. Amongst his many achievements, he was commissioned to paint King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother. A major retrospective of his work was held in 1957 at the Royal Academy, of which he had become President in 1949.
