Art print by Sir James Guthrie #15008

Sir James Guthrie

Sir James Guthrie, born on 10th June 1859 at Greenock, gained a reputation as a painter of classical themes and period landscapes and portraits.

He participated in many exhibitions and Salons, including the Munich and Berlin Exhibitions, where he received his due awards. The Royal Scottish Academy welcomed him among their members and at the age of 39 he was elected President, which gained him his knighthood.

He was also a Member of the Royal Scottish Water-colour Society, of the Société des Beaux-Arts de Paris, an Honorary Member of the Munich Academy and the Society of British Artists, and numerous other English societies. He was both a powerful designer and a fine colourist.
