Susan Crawford was born in the Scottish district of East Lothian, where her father was a racehorse trainer. She taught herself to paint but spent two years studying classical drawing in Florence under Signorini Nera Simi. Renowned for her portraiture and equestrian work, she has painted five members of the British Royal family, including mounted portraits of both HM The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales, as well as HH The Sultan of Brunei and HM The Sultan of Oman.
