Born in Bristol in 1871, the son of John Drummond, a marine painter, Arthur began his artistic career as a student under Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and in Paris under Constant and Jean Paul Laurens.
As a painter of genre and historical subjects, his work was exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1890. His paintings included Last Days of Pompeii, The God of the Ancients, The King's Courtship and His Majesty as a Baby.
