Lytton Strachey, 1916

Dora Carrington was an English painter and decorative artist who was mainly associated with the Bloomsbury Group, a set of English writers, intellectuals, philosophers, and artists who collectively came together in the first half of the 20th century. From her time as a student, she was known simply by her surname as she considered ‘Dora’ to be vulgar. During her lifetime Carrington’s work received no critical attention however her Victorian style pictures made from coloured tinfoil and her surrealist landscapes can be seen as progressive for her time.
