      About the Artwork

This high quality print is based on a hand-coloured engraved plate from Johannes Gessner's book 'Tabulae Phytographicae'. Gessner was a botanist, geologist and respected correspondent of Linnaeus. He was among the first botanists to adopt the Linnean system of classification. Gessner died before 'Tabulae Phytographicae' was completed and it was published after his death. Date: 1795.
