Nethaneel, Daniel, Kesi, Sam – Team GB Poster

Born in 1958 in London, Julian Opie graduated in 1983 from Goldsmiths School of Art, where he was taught by Michael Craig-Martin. Opie’s distinctive formal language is instantly recognisable and reflects his artistic preoccupation with the idea of representation and the means by which images are perceived and understood.

In 2001, Opie won the Music Week CADS award for best illustration for the chart topping album, ‘Best of Blur’ - an iconic moment establishing the pop artist's cultural significance on the British cultural stage and beyond. Opie has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally throughout his career, and his works can be found in many public art collections, including Tate, British Museum, V&A, The National Portrait Gallery and The Museum of Modern Art.
