About the artist

Born in 1872 in Amersfoort, Utrecht, Mondrian was a founder of the Dutch modern movement De Stijl - a circle of abstract artists dedicated to strict geometry of horizontals and verticals.

With a belief that art reflects the underlying spirituality of nature, Mondrian radically simplified the subjects of his paintings to the most basic elements, revealing the essence of the mystical energy in the forces governing nature and the universe. The result? Pared-down palettes and stripped back shapes, to create abstract works which are striking and beautifully modern.

Influential to this day, Mondrian’s art works look best as large prints, paired with a simple black or white frame.
