Sir John Soane Aged 76

The pre-eminent English portrait painter of his generation, Lawrence (1769 - 1830) was a wunkerkind and essentially self-taught. He was also good-looking and charismatic. After a decisive early triumph in his career in 1790, when his portrait of Queen Charlotte was exhibited at the Royal Academy to great acclaim, he never looked back in terms of professional and social success.
