Mrs Siddons

Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88) was the dominant British portraitist of the second half of the 18th century but his passion was for landscapes. He would work at night by candlelight, using stones, pieces of mirrors, and broccoli as models for the shapes he wished to paint. His verdant landscapes make delightful prints.
