Acanthus wallpaper, 1875

William Morris, born in Walthamstow in 1834, was England's best-known and most inspiring designer of the 19th Century. Morris was associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement and was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts. He had a profound influence on interior decoration throughout the Victorian era, the impact of which is still felt today.
