He arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand, via India and Singapore, and spent the next five years working on a relative's sheep farm. It was whilst in this hospitable part of the country that he met and married his first wife who bore him a son before her tragic early death. Overcome by grief, Alexander Sheridan travelled back to London with his young son where he lived a bohemian life as a well-regarded painter, tutor and freelance writer.
Alexander Sheridan found happiness again with his second wife, Shirley, whom he met whilst hiking in the Outer Hebrides. They have set up their home with her four children and his son on a farm on the outskirts of Ipswich, where he continues to paint the landscapes for which he has become synonymous.
