Since finishing at Trent Polytechnic in the late eighties, photographer Chris Tancock has worked in both documentary and commercial contexts, and since 2006 has been focusing on the production of photographic books. His books are devoted to long-term, ritualistic explorations of familiar landscapes. His work emerges from daily walking and repeated return, forming a slow photographic practice that reveals meaning gradually and in layers.
"Drawn to the uncanny yet comforted by the natural world, I focus on places I know deeply, creating images that carry a sense of enchantment and quiet introspection. Each project, often spanning five to ten years, becomes an elegy—both a celebration and a lament—for an isolated habitat. By working within strict self-imposed limits, I invite patience, time, and circumstance to shape the unexpected beauty that appears in unaltered nature. The images made available to you here are drawn from the heart of my work." - Chris Tancock
