John Atkinson Grimshaw was born in Leeds in 1836 and became one of the most successful oil painters of the nineteenth century, best known for his moonlit urban landscapes. Grimshaw's early work reflects the influence of John Ruskin's writings and the paintings of the pre-Raphaelites. Grimshaw was also used Victorian photographic techniques, projecting outlines onto canvases with a camera obscura or painting over photographs. Grimshaw's enchanting compositions capture the beauty of the night, and make atmospheric prints for the home.

The quality of the print and framing is excellent. Terrific value for money considering what the cost of framing alone is in my part of the country, ie horrendous. Very happy.
