Born in Edinburgh, Joseph Farquharson (1846-1935) was a tremendously skilled and popular painter renowned for his snowscapes and countryside scenes. Though he travelled, notably to Paris and Egypt, many of his paintings depict his native Scotland and the rigours of the winter climate there. While remarkably realistic, Farquharson's paintings are highly poetic and often take their titles from poems by Milton and Shakespeare. These invigorating prints show the landscape at its best.
