Paul Nash (1889-1946) was a modernist painter illustrator and designer. He played a key role in introducing European avant-garde movements - including Surrealism and Abstraction - to the British art scene. Nash is chiefly known for his iconic scenes of World War II and his emotive landscapes. Working in the tradition of Turner and Blake, Nash explored the ancient history and myths that imbue the English landscape. With this rich backdrop, his work has a surreal, magical quality.
