Robert Indiana (1928-2018) was an American Pop artist whose bold and colourful work drew on the style of commercial logos. He is best known for his iconic LOVE motif, an artistic merging of ordinary language and graphic design. ‘LOVE’ was originally created for the Museum of Modern Art’s Christmas card in 1964, and was the basis for his 1970 ‘LOVE’ sculptures, as well as the widely distributed 1973 US Postal ‘LOVE’ stamp.
