Café, 1928

Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889- 1943) was one of the foremost abstract geometric artists and designers of the 1920s and 30s, and is the only woman currently depicted on a Swiss banknote. Her artistic output included painting, textiles, embroidery, sculptures and puppets as well as her famous ‘Dada heads’. Taeuber-Arp’s diverse work challenged the boundaries of art and design, combining modernist abstraction with traditional crafts.
