Sue Arrowsmith (b. 1968, Manchester, UK) has lived and worked in London since graduating from Goldsmiths College in 1990. Her works begin with photographs that she has taken of floral compositions – tree forms, leaves, branches and blossoms – which evolve into beautifully detailed abstract paintings that capture the beauty and temporality of the natural world. Arrowsmith finishes her works by meticulously mixing her own richly pigmented gold and bronze metallic inks, using Japanese Sumi ink. Arrowsmith has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe, with solo shows at venues including Purdy Hicks Gallery, London, and Galerie Andres Thalmann, Zurich. Her accolades include the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition Prize (1997) and the NatWest Art Prize (1998).
