Chuck Close (born 1940) is an American artist famous for his photorealist portraiture. He often paints himself or close family and friends on a monumental scale despite his struggle with facial blindness. In the 1970s Close developed an innovative technique of painting using a methodical grid system or which he is now world renowned.
