Ciseaux V (Scissor V), 1967

Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French artist who rejected traditional, sophisticated art forms in favour of 'art brut'- a term he invented to describe the work of untrained artists. He greatly respected the quality of 'raw', uninhibited expression which he considered the most authentic approach to image-making.
