Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931) was a Dutch artist best known as the leader of De Stijl, a design movement devoted to pure geometry and abstraction. Much like the Bauhaus, De Stijl aimed to merge the fine and applied arts. Van Doesburg simplified his compositions down to essential form favouring black, white and primary colours.
