Limited edition lightbox - #1150421

Jemma Appleby
#4059

Size: 36 x 36 cm

Exploring light and shadow, contemporary artist Jemma Appleby creates immaculate drawings from charcoal dust. Her works have a rich, velvet like quality, with a perfectly smooth finish making the hand of the artist almost invisible.

In a unique collaboration with King & McGaw, Appleby's intricate work has been interpreted as an exquisite, limited edition lightbox. Presented in a black aluminium frame, this collectible piece comes with a certificate signed and numbered by the artist.

‘With an emphasis on purity and simplification, my drawings depict clean, minimal spaces. The architectural spaces and atmospheres they manifest explore themes of memory and knowledge.

The inspiration for this piece came from a very large, open space. It’s quite reflective, as I looked for a space that had very specific lighting qualities. Because I knew that the end product was going to be very different from my usual works on paper, it was really important to me that the light source within the composition emitted from the drawing to replicate how the lightbox practically works.’ – Jemma Appleby
