Our team’s favourite artworks

The team here at King & McGaw are passionate about art, and with so much variety in our collection, we each have our favourite. Over the last six months, we’ve asked members of the team to select a print and tell us why they love it so much.

‘Gregory Loading his Camera, 1983’

‘I chose this rare poster by David Hockney because I love the colours and the way the photos are printed with a glossy varnish. I work with our rare collection every day and know the feeling of this poster very well… the quality and paper are just lovely.’ – Angela, Publishing and Product Coordinator at King & McGaw

‘Standing Female Nude II, 1946’

‘I chose this piece by Picasso because I love its uplifting use of colour and expressive cubist style, particularly the energy that radiates from the abstract female forms – it feels perfect for spring!’ – Cassie, Head of Marketing at King & McGaw

‘Pause, 1964’

I only discovered Bridget Riley since working at King & McGaw but have been quite obsessed ever since. Learning about her journey from art school to becoming the globally renowned artist she is now was fascinating and seeing the process that takes place to create her pieces is amazing. I’d highly recommend this documentary! – Matt, CRM Manager at King & McGaw

‘High Times (1968-2018)’

‘I chose this rare poster featuring Jimi Hendrix because he is one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock and he drove me into the genre with his revolutionary electric guitar skills. Between the monochrome photography and the angle that the picture was taken it almost feels alive – it’s like I am there, hearing his guitar… Safe to say this poster “rocked’’ my world!’ – João, Digital Print Operator at King & McGaw

‘Self-Obliteration by Dots, 1968’

‘I chose this poster featuring Yayoi Kusama in her installation piece “Self-Obliteration by Dots” as I love both the photographic quality and the meaning behind her work. Kusama became obsessed with the use of polka dots following a hallucination she had as a child. Her use of them throughout her paintings, drawings, installations and clothing is designed to feel as though the objects and self are melting into the bigger universe’ – Amelia, Design Coordinator

‘Vogue Late July 1922’

‘In my role I’m lucky enough to research and write about the art in our collection. I’m always drawn to the Vogue Illustrations – in particular the work of George Wolfe-Plank. His art perfectly captures the style and elegance of 1920s fashion in a detailed and playful way.

I chose this piece because I adore the colour palette, the beautiful use of line and composition, and how the Sun casts down its shimmering rays.’ – Robyn, Marketing Executive
