In contemporary culture, due to the popularity of cartoons such as Donald Duck and Daffy Duck, these birds have been associated as being funny and humorous. The Japanese however consider them as symbols of luck and faithfulness, whilst Mandarin ducks are associated with love by the Chinese. Mostly found in both fresh and sea water, the word duck derives from Old English 'duce' which means dive or to bend down low as if to get under something. Ducks are also considered to be resourceful because of their ability to fly, run, swim and dive.
