John Atkinson Grimshaw was born in Leeds in 1836 and became one of the most successful oil painters of the nineteenth century, best known for his moonlit urban landscapes. Grimshaw's early work reflects the influence of John Ruskin's writings and the paintings of the pre-Raphaelites. Grimshaw was also used Victorian photographic techniques, projecting outlines onto canvases with a camera obscura or painting over photographs. Grimshaw's enchanting compositions capture the beauty of the night, and make atmospheric prints for the home.

The order arrived quickly, in top condition and is a fabulous quality print. The moonlit scene is caught so well on the good quality paper. Has pride of place framed over my piano and I am now buying the same again for my Mum for Mothers Day.
