Forbidden Territories: 100 years of Surreal Landscapes at The Hepworth Wakefield. 23 November – 27 April 2025

At The Hepworth Wakefield, celebrate 100 years since the publication of the Surrealist Manifesto in this exhibition that marks the past and present of one of the art world’s biggest movements.

Trace how Surrealists explored landscape as a metaphor of the unconscious and see major works of art from the 1920s to the 1940s on display, including Eileen Agar, Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, continuing with later artists such as Edith Rimmington, Marion Adnams and Conroy Maddox. Interventions by contemporary artists influenced by Surrealism, such as Helen Marten, appear throughout. Learn more

The World of Tim Burton at the Design Museum, London. 25 October – 21 April 2025

Dive into the fantastical world of Tim Burton, the creative force behind some of the most celebrated films of the last four decades, internationally recognised as a master of the comically grotesque and the endearingly misfit.

This major exhibition provides a comprehensive look at his world. While most well-known for his cinematic work, this show displays the full extent of his production as an illustrator, painter, photographer and author, as well as exploring key collaborations with designers. Learn more

Dora Carrington: Beyond Bloomsbury at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester. 9 November – 27 April 2025

Once deemed ‘the most neglected serious painter of her time’, Pallant House Gallery’s latest exhibition is dedicated entirely to the life and work of Bloomsbury Group artist, Dora Carrington.

This exhibition highlights Carrington’s unconventional lifestyle and artistic achievements, in addition to her remarkable works. See her paintings, drawings, prints and personal film and photographs, reflecting her bohemian life and relationships. Learn more

VOGUE: Inventing the Runway at Lightroom, London. 13 November – 26 April 2025

Explore this immersive exhibition tracing the evolution of fashion runway shows from early 20th-century couture salons to modern pop-culture events.

Vogue’s Inventing the Runway combines first-hand accounts and diverse media to showcase how fashion shows have become a key expression of designers’ visions and identities, and celebrates the creativity, discipline, and passion that have transformed fashion shows into global spectacles that integrate art, technology, and celebrity. Photographing 80s Britain: A Critical Decade at Tate Britain, London. 21 November – 5 May 2025

Travel back in time to 1980s Britain, through Tate’s latest exhibition that reveals a transformative era in British photography and its global repercussions.

Witness the power of photography as a catalyst for social change and artistic experimentation with images that capture the essence of protest and societal shifts, amplifying voices of marginalised communities such as the Black arts movement, queer experience, South Asian diaspora, and women. Delve into the influential photography journals of Ten 8 and Cameraworks and explore the impact of collectives such as Autograph ABP, Half Moon Photography Workshop, and Hackney Flashers. Learn more

The Great Mughals: Art, Architecture and Opulence at V&A South Kensington, London. 9 November – 5 May 2025

Marvel at glittering jewels and opulent objects from the Mughal Courts Golden Age (c.1560-1660) in this major exhibition at the V&A, which celebrates the significant artistic achievements of the time, marked by pioneering creativity and an internationalist culture.

Discover over 200 objects, including rare paintings, illustrated manuscripts, luxurious carpets and delicate textiles, plus opulent architectural pieces and objects made with pearl, crystals, jade and precious metals. Learn about how an international culture flourished out of the Mughal courts, where Hindustani, Iranian and European artists collaborated to create hybrid art. Learn more

Dürer to Van Dyck: Drawings from Chatsworth House at National Galleries Scotland: National, Edinburgh. 9 November – 23 February 2025

Experience 50 spectacular Old Masters drawings and watercolours, exclusive to the National Galleries of Scotland. Dürer to Van Dyck brings together an impressive group of Flemish, Dutch, Early Netherlandish, and German works, spanning from about 1500 to 1700.

Selected from the drawings at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, the exhibition features drawings by Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Younger, Sir Peter Paul Rubens, Sir Anthony van Dyck and Rembrandt. Learn more
